I don’t know what to say. I just read a list of the top 10 episodes of Deep Space Nine that everyone should watch and, really, well, no. Those were 10 of the worst episodes ever. Well, nine because one on the list was “all of the episodes.” Which, really, at least half of them are an easy waste. And the list would have been eight if one of them was “the one where Sisko and Jake build a pre-cultural Bajoran space-ship and ‘space-sail’ to Cardassia to prove the inventiveness of proto-Bajoran culture.” That one was terrible.

But also I’ve been on an online “for now” dating site for hours and nobody agrees with what I’m offering there, either. And nobody IRL seems down for that either.

And really, the good ones are the episodes where they explore Bajoran spirituality — especially in terms of the wormhole and the “Prophets” that may or may not live within it — or when they draw a sharp parallel between Bajor and Israel, or when Quark is forced to make a decision between profit and ethics, or when Odo is forced to make a decision between justice and friendship. That’s what makes the show. Not playing baseball against Vulcans or whatever. Fuck that.

And one day some dude on or not on the gayternets will realize that, and will recognize that I do too, and it will be a love connection and everyone can finally sleep happy. Meantime, let’s all hate the world and its opinion of Deep Space Nine, shall we? OK, let’s…
